Neymar Set to Undergo Keyhole Surgery
The 33-year-old Santos forward shared an image on social media on Sunday showing him on a hospital bed in Belo Horizonte, a city in southeastern Brazil, signaling preparations for the procedure.
Reports indicate that Rodrigo Lasmar, the doctor for the Brazil national team, will perform the operation. The expected recovery timeline is approximately four weeks.
Earlier this month, Neymar disclosed that he had played the second half of the 2025 Brazilian season while injured, choosing to endure the pain to help Santos avoid relegation.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star featured in only 28 matches across all competitions this year, registering 11 goals and four assists.
This latest setback follows a prolonged absence of more than a year after he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during a World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay in October 2023.
As Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, Neymar is targeting a return to full fitness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
He has not appeared for the national team in over two years, and Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has previously stated that only players receiving regular club minutes will be considered for selection.
